Therapeutic Riding

Therapeutic riding is the result of using horses and horse related activities for the purpose of positively contributing to the physical, cognitive, emotional and often social well-being of individuals with disabilities and/or special needs.
I CAN-T.E.R.’s Therapeutic Riding Program can provide individuals with a variety of horsemanship lessons that can include topics from riding to grooming their own horse. With the goals of the individual in mind, this program works with the student to ride or to care for a horse to the best of their ability, through special lessons, equipment, the right horse as well as games & activities. It’s not just fun! There are many benefits! Improves balance, aids muscle tone, strengthens muscles, develops co-ordination, prevention of contractures, builds confidence, improves self-esteem and develops independence!!!

Horse Groom Program

Good jobs with good wages are available to people with the right training.

Employers of the horse industry are eager to hire skilled and knowledgeable workers. The Horse Groom 600-H is an official apprenticeship program approved by The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. Enjoy the respect and reward of a skilled trades person.

I CAN-T.E.R. is an officially approved Training and Delivery Agency (T.D.A) for the Ontario Horse Groom Apprenticeship program. The mandatory in-school portion of the apprenticeship program can be obtained at I CAN-T.E.R. (402 hrs in-class). The remainder of the apprenticeship hours are to be completed while working within the horse industry under the guidance of a qualified employer. (3600 hrs on-the-job)

Ontario has an enormous horse industry covering various areas, including Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse and Standardbred racing, as well as a variety of quality establishments such as riding, breeding, driving, showing and much more! All of these areas require skilled individuals to meet the growing demands of this fast paced industry, that now has many approved and recognized standards in place, emphasizing safety for both horse and handler.

No previous horse experience needed. Pre-requisite - Grade 12 or Equivalency.

Summer Day Camp

Children 4 to 13 years old.
Camp runs for 8 weeks from July through August, Monday to Friday.

Our Summer Day Camp is designed to introduce children to the wonders and fun of life on the farm and in the woods. At camp, both recreational and educational activities are used to provide children with a rewarding experience. Be sure to have proper footwear on in order to ride & play with the animals!

School and Group Programs

With everything from farm animals lessons, gardening and nature to all kinds of horse related activities, the I CAN-T.E.R. School Trip and Group Program is designed with flexibility in mind to either reinforce classroom material or to teach and introduce a new topic. Teachers may choose from a variety of program options according to the needs of their class. The program strives to achieve the following goals:

  • Increase appreciation of and respect for nature and animals through hands on activities and lessons.
  • Increase awareness of farm animals and their usefulness to humans.
  • Increase knowledge of various aspects of animal care, health and handling.
  • Increase knowledge of horses and horsemanship.
  • Help in the development of positive self-image through animal assisted therapy - bonding with animals gives children feelings of pride and success.

Seniors Day Program

Many Program Options
“To promote healthy active living”
This program is designed to promote healthy active living to seniors by offering a wide range of activities in a unique outdoor farm setting.

Birdwatching/Nature Activities - Seniors can choose from a variety of birdwatching locations on the farm.

Farm Visit- Seniors will take a tour of our unique farm and have the opportunity of spending time with our various animals such as horses and grooming them, and other farm animals, such as sheep, goat, bunnies, chicks, dogs, cat & more.

Gardening - We have a large garden full of various plants & vegetables as well as a small greenhouse for growing prep.

As part of their visit to the farm seniors also have the option of enjoying a picnic lunch or camp fire. Other activites can be added according to your group's need.

Pony School

Do you love horses? Do you want to learn more about them? Have you always wanted to ride? Then Pony School is the place for you! Pony School is a weekly program where kids can learn the various aspects of pony ownership and learn riding skills. This program emphasizes barn safety as well as safety around horses & ponies. Pony School is for able-bodied kids from 8 to 13 years.
